What happens in a subway station with no air conditioning at the height of summer, filled with empty and broken vending machines, a complete lack of signs guiding travelers to the right platforms, and funded by a city council more interested in taking bribes from the local car dealers than appropriating a reasonable budget for the transit system the population relies on? It will be your job to find out, and to do what you can to keep things civil.
Set in mass transit stations modeled after some of my favorite real-world locations around the globe, trains come and go as the station fills and empties of individually simulated characters, each there for a reason and carrying the burdens and joys of unique psychological profiles. The office commuter desperate to catch their train, the lost and befuddled tourist getting in everyone else’s way, the oblivious teenager who refuses to conform to society’s oppressive stand-right-walk-left pressures, the entitled and self-obsessed yapper pushing their way to the front of the queue to make sure they can claim the only solo seat in the carriage.
Inspired by my love of mass transit systems around the world and their unique characters and atmospheres, this upcoming subway station game is still in very early development and is thus far an entirely solo endeavour. The focus right now is on core systems and mechanics of the world and NPC simulation. All visuals are of actual gameplay but containing largely temporary prototyping assets (the models, textures, and animations).
You can follow updates on the game on the blog. Supporting my work always feels like too much to ask, but if you are such a generous soul, I currently have a Ko-fi and will be looking into other options as well whenever I need a break from debugging train schedulers and happiness meters. The drive to get core mechanics working is aimed at being able to start providing dev builds for others to toy around with and give feedback. I suppose at some point I’ll need to set up a Discord for things like that, just like everyone and their aunt has these days.
