Escape to Sorcerer Mountain

A thin jut of light colored sand extends upward and to the right from the lower left corner of the frame into a clear body of water. The water is a deep blue-green and the sand beneath the surface appears tinted a rich ochre because of the hue of the water. Covering much of the sand, both above and below the water, are large and small rocks, most smoothed by the water over time, but some of the larger ones retaining a rougher surface and sharper edges. A small, straight piece of bleached driftwood sits just above the water line on the sand near the bottom of the photo. The end of the sand bar is dominated by larger rocks, almost all fully submerged, but a few of the largest stick up out of the water, their exposed surfaces completely dried by the day's sun.

Tranquility in Winter Springs

A snow covered mountain dominates the frame, with a blue sky visible just in the upper right. A smaller mountain is barely visible in the bottom left sparsely populated by pine trees. The large mountain peak featured in the image extends upward and to the left across the entire photo, but is covered by clouds in its top third. The clouds are being pushed over the top of the mountain by the wind, revealing the snow covered rocks beneath. Much of the mountain is in shadow, but the sun is directly illuminating the still-cloudcovered portion.

Breathe Clearly

A dense city at night is full of apartment and office towers, with warm yellow street lights and thousands of interior lights shining through windows filling the bottom two thirds of the image. A bay is visible in the background, lined with tall buildings, giant bright billboards and signs visible on the tops of the buildings on the far side of the water. In the distance, just barely visible, are the outlines of hills surrounding the city, dotted with the lights of homes. No stars are visible in the deep purple haze of the clouded sky which reflects back the light of the city. In the bottom right of the photo is a brightly illuminated sports field, home to two soccer pitches with the tiny figures of yellow-uniformed players stopped in streaked motion from the slow shutter speed of the camera.

Practice Under a Starless Sky

A broad open plain with stiff, tall brown grasses extends out to the horizon which is broken only by a few small, distant hills. The sky is filled with a thick layer of darkening clouds and the light is turning golden as the sun sets somewhere behind the vantage point of the camera. In the center of the field directly ahead of the camera is a small clearing with a rough wooden paddock, empty of any livestock. A single, red saddle from a camel is draped over the paddock railings.

Unsaddled, Unbounded

A traditional tiled Japanese roof is shown from the side, with the tile layers swooping down in a steep curve, ending with cast reliefs of traditional heraldic symbols, kamon, associated with the imperial family. Four tile end caps, or gatō, have the three-part 'tomoe' symbol surrounded by a circle of dots. A single cast relief at the end of a primary tile cap featured in the center of the photo is a chrysanthemum in full bloom with three stylized chrysanthemum 'kiku' kamon, the Imperial Seal of Japan, in a wide triangular pattern above it. The roof tiles have a pronounced slate blue color and the wooden support beams are barely visible in the shadows beneath the tiles.

Grief and Endurance

In the foreground a small cluster of cherry blossoms are in full bloom with a vibrant pink flower in front of two white blossoms along a branch showing small green leaves to either side. More clusters of blossoms can be seen out of focus across the background which is otherwise filled with darker greenery.
